Each employee engaged in residential construction activities 6 feet (1.8 m) or more above lower levels shall be protected by guardrail systems, safety net system, or personal fall arrest system unless another provision in paragraph (b) of this section provides for an alternative fall protection measure. WORKSITE: The employees, performing residential construction and related activities were not protected against the hazard of falling by the use of guard rail systems, safety net systems, or personal fall arrest systems. These activities include (but are not limited to) the following: 1. The employees installing sheathing on the steep (8/12 pitch) roof were exposed to falling 27 feet 4 inches to the ground. 2. The employees on the open sided floor above the garage were exposed to falling 12 feet 5 inches to the ground. 3. The employees working from the attic with numerous floor holes and openings were exposed to falling 8 feet 10 inches to the floor below. 4. The employees working at or near seven window openings on the second floor were exposed to falling 13 feet 4 inches to the ground below.
